Bye-bye, Bayh!

February 16, 2010

Evan Bayh (pronounced “Buy”) has announced his retirement. Don’t let the door hit you in the ass on the way out, Evan.

Good to see this two-faced republicrat go. I just wish I’d have seen him go down in flames in the fall instead of walking out on his own. It sure makes a much weaker narrative then the one it replaces: Every DLC Senator or DLC subordinate (Reid) losing their seat after blocking the public option.

It’ll do.

I’m beginning to see the possible signs of a possible Obama strategy here. Let the Bluedogs and the Repubs destroy themselves, help them destroy themselves. Do nothing, play dumb, send out mixed messages, let the ship drift. Have a “Popeye the sailor” moment (that’s alls I can stands, cause I can’t stands no more!!!!) and cue the souza music sometime in 2011, and then shift hard to the left, passing tons of stuff in budget reconciliation and recess appointments, and peak just before the 2012 elections.

Very smart, if that’s what he’s doing. One can hope.

So far this cycle:

Dodd

Bayh

Coming up:

Reid

Lincoln

Landrieu

Next cycle:

LIEberman

Nelson

Nelson

Remaining to go:

Baucus

Did I miss anyone?

All we need is a few pick-ups to replace these turn coats with real progressives.

First in Series — Ghosts of Politicians Past

December 13, 2009

Hard to believe people like this were veeps, senators, secrataries of state, etc… back before Joe McCarthy

Henry A. Wallace

I’ll be following this one up with lots more of the people who made organized labor, weekends, financial regulation, and 90% taxation on the very rich mainstream… Not like I expect anyone in the biz today to be ashamed of claiming the mantle of someone like this, but it’s useful for calibrating your stench-o-meter….

We are a very odd civilization these days….

More thoughts on President Spock

December 5, 2009

On second thought, it just occurred to me that if Obama is Mr. Spock, then Howard Dean must be Captain Kirk! I take it all back. We need Captain Kirk! The needs of the many must outweigh the needs of the few — or the One. 2016 can’t come fast enough.

Drop dead and go bankrupt.

December 2, 2009

MSNBC has this story comparing President Obama to Mr. Spock, of Star Trek fame.

I’ve heard this one before, and before, and before. It’s starting to feel a bit like Star Trek: the original series does to me these days, like, How many times have I seen this episode?

Look, I’m sure glad Spock and not old Blood and Guts Kirk is finally in command of the (free) Enterprise. Can we watch some thing else, now, please? I think there’s Twilight Zone marathon on Channel 11. Somebody pass the remote!

DEAN!!!!!

Oh, I love this man. I sure wish he were president.

The details are here.

A Thought:

November 18, 2009

It occurs to me that the Obama administration is in fact, keeping one of their major campaign promises: They are re-distributing the wealth. The problem, of course, is that when we voted for him (myself included) we all believed he meant redistributing the wealth of the wealthy to the poor, not the other way around.

Is Obama the New, Democratic Version of President Herbert Hoover?

Grim news from earlier this month shows that the official unemployment number is now 10.2% and that the far more accurate underemployment number is at 17.5%. Economist David Rosenberg (who correctly forecast the mortgage problem way back in 2004) sees unemployment numbers going to 12 or 13%. Moreover, a record 5.6 million people have been unemployed for over 6 months, notes Rosenberg, with more than 9 million Americans working part-time because no full-time jobs are available. In past recessions, says Rosenberg, the number of part-time workers has rarely got much above 6 million.

Greenspan says “break up big banks!”

Pigs have also somehow grown wings and successfully flown to the moon.

I think this definitely calls for a party.

Obama’s Nobel

October 16, 2009

I’m surprised that in the ongoing hubbub over what exactly Barack Obama did to earn a Nobel Peace Prize, no one has fielded the obvious:

He got a elected.

Seriously, think about it. After two rigged elections worthy of a 70’s style third world kleptocracy, he got a elected, and finally brought an end to the aggressive belligerent reagan-bush-clinton-bush error, and what’s making the right’s head explode so much is the “final insult” quality of having Obama’s election and policy shift treated like the toppling of Apartheid (which it also is), or the collapse of the Berlin wall.
